Deadly Ebola disease outbreak needs your urgent support

작성자 Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is working around the clock to help contain an Ebola disease outbreak in Ituri, Tshopo, and Haut Uélé provinces, in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and in Uganda.

Ebola disease is a highly contagious and deadly viral disease. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus of Ebola disease, for which there is no vaccine or treatment. In just two months, it has become the third largest outbreak and the fastest growing on record. In a region where millions of people are displaced from their homes due to violent conflict—and where medical services are already strained to meet the need—this crisis is especially devastating.

We’ve mobilized thousands of experienced medical emergency staff to respond to this outbreak alongside thousands of locally hired staff. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, we are operating several Ebola treatment centers and isolation units across Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu provinces. In Uganda, MSF has rehabilitated an Ebola treatment center near Kampala and renovated an isolation center located in southwestern Uganda, bordering DRC.

MSF is isolating and caring for suspected patients, strengthening infection prevention and control, deploying specialized medical and logistical staff, and supplying essential equipment needed to safely manage Ebola cases.

We have vast experience responding to viral hemorrhagic fever outbreaks, including two previous outbreaks of Bundibugyo virus in 2007 and 2012.

MSF provides lifesaving care for patients in over 75 countries around the world. MSF USA takes no government funding, which allows us to remain independent and impartial. This means that when an emergency strikes, we can act fast and start saving lives immediately.
