Empowering Education and Health: Akshaya Patra Foundation - Midday Meals for Varanasi

, Akshaya Patra Foundation USA

The Akshaya Patra Foundation (TAPF) is enhancing nutrition and education for children in the Varanasi district (Harahua and Badagaon blocks) by providing midday meals. Children are selected for this program in collaboration with WestBridge Capital. They receive freshly cooked, nutrition-rich meals every school day, prepared in a well-equipped kitchen operated by TAPF.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2, 3, and 4, this program demonstrates our collective commitment to the well-being and education of Indian children, particularly those in government schools in Varanasi. As the project's implementing partner, TAPF provides freshly cooked meals to the children from 145 schools. These meals meet government-approved nutrition guidelines and emphasize both taste and quality, reflecting regional and geographical food cultures.

All meals were prepared at Akshaya Patra’s centralized kitchens in Varanasi and distributed through insulated vehicles. Each meal is a step toward creating a bridge for children to access life opportunities. It is widely recognized that providing midday meals in schools improves children's attentiveness in the classroom, fosters the development of their motor skills, and lowers the school dropout rate. Meals are distributed to schools by TAPF-insulated vehicles and served to children at noon every school day.
